The new Department for Child Protection (DCP) was established on 1 November, 2016 in response to the Child Protection Systems Royal Commission, headed by the Honourable Margaret Nyland AM.
Many of the former Office for Child Protection and Families SA functions within the Department for Education and Child Development has been established in a new department, focusing solely on the business of child protection.
- protecting South Australia's children
- responding to concerns of safety
- supporting children in care
- managing the adoption process
The creation of a new standalone department allows for a fresh start in child protection and the department will continue to work towards implementing recommendations from the Nyland report.
Visit the Department for Child Protection website for information about child protection in South Australia.
