The Minister for Education and Child Development awards are given as part of the Children’s Week celebration for children who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in any endeavour including academic, community service, sport, arts and personal challenge.
Children’s Week takes place from 20 to 29 October 2017.
Education should develop each child’s personality and talents to the full. It should encourage children to respect their parents, their cultures and other cultures. Article 29, United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Up to two awards may be given in each category:
- primary school students (including year 7 students at any school)
- secondary school students (up to 18 years old).
Children from government and non-government schools can be nominated on the demonstration of outstanding achievement in any endeavour.
Nominations will be accepted from individuals, groups or organisations. Parents can not nominate their own child.

Nominations close Friday 15 September 2017.
The awards will be presented at an official function during Children’s Week from 20 to 29 October 2017.
All recipients, school or group representatives and family representatives will be invited to the presentations.
A panel comprising members of the Children’s Week committee and a departmental representative will judge the nominations.
The panel’s decision will be final.
Winners will be notified by email.
