What External Relations does

The External Relations directorate:

  • provides independent advice, administrative and policy support to the Minister for Education and Child Development in regard to
    • early childhood services
    • multicultural education and languages
    • children and students with disability
    • ethnic schools
    • the government and non-government education sectors
    • non-government organisations
  • builds relationships and developing strategy with non-government schooling sectors and other stakeholders, notably other SA government agencies and interstate education agencies
  • provides executive support to the Ministerial Advisory Committee: Children and Students With Disabilities (MAC:CSWD) and the Multicultural Education and Languages Committee (MELC)
  • coordinates the sector heads group comprising the chief executives of the three education sectors (government, Catholic and independent)
  • builds strategic relationships with key peak bodies and co-ordinate stakeholder engagement for DECD
  • contributes to collaborative education reform agreed by the three education sectors (government, Catholic and independent)
  • manages state government funding approvals to non-government schools and continued compliance with funding deeds
  • manages a compliance regime and the allocation of state government funding for ethnic schools
  • administers the minister’s discretionary grant funding to government and non-government organisations
  • provides administration services to the Child Development Council, the Guardian for Children and Young People and the Child Death and Serious Injury Review Committee
