Permanent teaching positions on offer

16 March 2017

One hundred permanent positions will be made available to temporary, contract and new graduate teachers in a move designed to refresh South Australia’s public teaching workforce.

The positions will be created as a result of the 2017 Teacher Renewal Program (TRP), which aims to ensure teachers with contemporary skills are attracted and retained in the public system.

To create the positions, 100 eligible current permanent teachers, being those aged 55 or over who have not engaged in significant professional development activity in the past 3 years focused on enhancing contemporary teaching methodology, will be offered a $50,000 separation benefit to support their retirement or a move into new employment.

Registration of interest will be open in April to all eligible teachers who intend to resign through the TRP.

The vacancies created by the TRP will be advertised in August and filled by the end of 2017, with selected candidates starting in their permanent roles in 2018.

Existing permanent staff will be ineligible to apply for the new vacancies created as a result of the TRP.

This is the first TRP since 2011, which saw 102 permanent positions created and filled.

The 2017 Teacher Renewal Program delivers on the State Government’s election commitment.
