The state government has partnered with Telstra to deliver more than $800,000 in upgrades to internet carriage services in 9 Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands schools.
A need to upgrade services in the APY Lands has been recognised so schools can better support digital education practices and have greater access to online resources
The internet plays a huge role in modern education and it is important that children and young people in the APY Lands receive the same learning opportunities as students across the rest of the state.
Schools will transfer from existing services such as HDSL, frame and mobile, to a fibre optic broadband system which will improve the speed and quality of internet connection.
Work is expected to begin this term and it is estimated they will be completed by June 2018.
Fibre optic is the latest advancement in broadband technology and this move will better connect APY Lands schools with education services and online resources to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
The following schools will receive the upgrades:
- Amata Anangu School
- Ernabella Anangu School
- Fregon Anangu School
- Indulkana Anangu School
- Mimili Anangu School
- Murputja Anangu School
- Pipalyatjara Anangu School
- Yalata Anangu School
