Up to 20 university students in their final year of teaching will have the opportunity to access up to $4000 to undertake professional experience placements in regional and rural government schools and preschools in South Australia.
The scholarships will alleviate the financial pressures associated with taking up rural and regional placements and provide pre-service teachers with new learning opportunities to encourage them to consider employment in these areas after graduation.
Scholarships will be available from next year and open to all pre-service teachers studying at the metro-based campuses for the three state universities, Adelaide University, Flinders University and the University of South Australia.
Placements in public schools and preschool for the 2018 pilot will be prioritised within the Upper Spencer Gulf, which consists of Port Pirie, Whyalla and Port Augusta.
Scholarships will be promoted through the 3 state universities and applicants will be required to meet selection criteria.
Funding will depend on the length and requirements of the placement for each individual student.
