Legal status of governing councils and school councils

Every council with an approved constitution is an incorporated body. Your site’s approved constitution is evidence of the council's legal status as an incorporated body.

Personal liability protection

The Education Act 1972 has provisions for personal liability protection for members of:

This protection is only if people have behaved in good faith (behaved appropriately) while carrying out their duties as a member of the council/committee.
