Critical dates and tasks for school principals

NAPLAN — Paper test preparation

16 March to 8 May

Log on to the 2017 NAPLAN Student Participation Website and complete the compliance screen to verify that Part A and Part B of the Handbook for Principals have been read and understood.

22 March

Ensure braille, large print and electronic tests have been ordered.

7 to 12 April

Check that all NAPLAN paper test materials have been received and that Tamper Evident Bags are intact. Count all materials received and store securely.

12 April

(Country area schools only.) Finalise all requests for additional NAPLAN materials.

3 May

(Metro area schools only.) Finalise all requests for additional NAPLAN materials.

5 May

Ensure test administrators are familiar with all aspects of the test administration including the National Protocols for Paper Test Administration. 

 

Distribute paper Test Administration Handbooks to the teachers who will be administering the NAPLAN tests.

 

Check all student exemption forms are complete and have parental/caregiver consent.

 

Finalise all disability adjustments, and ensure permission has been granted for students who require a scribe or assistive technologies such as a computer for the writing paper test.

8 May

Final check that the test days are organised — rooms prepared, test supervisors familiar with Paper Test Administration Handbooks, test books sorted and ready for distribution on the paper test days.

 

Check the Student Participation Website records have been updated to record home schooled students who are sitting the tests at the school, adjustments granted, exempt and withdrawn students, new students and students who have left your school.

NAPLAN — Paper testing period

 

Collect all signed withdrawal forms before relevant test(s) commences.

9 May

Distribute the Language Conventions and Writing test book and writing stimulus material to test administrators.

 

Collect all test books and stimulus material after the tests have been administered.

10 May

Distribute the Reading test book and stimulus materials to test administrators.

 

Collect all test books and stimulus material after the test has been conducted.

11 May

Distribute the Numeracy tests to test administrators.

 

Collect all test books after the tests have been conducted.

12 May

Finalise student catch-up.

 

Undertake final check and count of the completed test books.

 

Check all completed student withdrawal and exemption forms have been stored securely at the school.

Returning paper test materials

(12 May for schools selected for courier pick up; 15 May for all other schools)

12/15 May

Complete and sign the checklist to be returned with test books.

 

Package completed test books, affix eParcel label and lodge with Australia Post (or with courier), as instructed.

 

Do not return unused test booklets.

Store all spare or unused test booklets and stimulus materials in a secure location until the end of the test security period.

 

Finalise the Student Participation Website to record absent students and ensure correct details regarding home schooled students who sat the tests at the school, adjustments granted, exempt and withdrawn students, new students and students who have left your school.

 

Confirm all details for all relevant year levels on the confirmation screen of the Student Participation Website.

19 May

No further changes to student records may be made by schools on the Student Participation Website.

End of test security period

26 May

Spare or unused test booklets and stimulus materials may be taken out of secure storage. Unused test booklets may be used within the school for educational purposes. Please do not return unused booklets.
