The South Australian Schools Percussion Ensemble (SASPE) consists of 6 to 8 players. It offers performance access to a comprehensive range of percussion instruments not available in most schools.
This ensemble enables students to undertake Ensemble Performance as a year 12 (SACE Stage 2) subject.
Placement within the ensemble will be prioritised to students enrolled in a secondary classroom music subject in 2018 and/or participating in school ensembles as required by the school.
Placement of students not meeting these criteria will be considered if positions maintaining balance within the SASPE are subsequently available.
Entry is by audition.
Students learning a percussion instrument for more than 2 years in SA government schools, years 6 to 12 in 2018 are eligible to apply.
Students do not need to have skills on both tuned and un-tuned percussion to audition for this ensemble.
Students auditioning for this ensemble may also consider auditioning on the same instrument (in the one audition), for the:
- Primary Schools Music Festival Orchestras - years 5 to 9
- South Australian Schools Concert Band - years 5 to 12.
The audition should take approximately 7 to 10 minutes. Drum kit is not appropriate if this a SASPE only audition.
Applicants should prepare to present either A or B, as well as 2 prepared pieces that contrast in style (C).
A: un-tuned percussion
Ability to play basic rudiments including: the flam, paradiddle, double and single stroke rolls.
B: tuned percussion
Scales in C, F and G majors.
C: two tuned or un-tuned percussion pieces
Two tuned or un-tuned percussion pieces that contrast in style or instrumentation, and that demonstrate your current level of technical and musical ability.
Auditions will be held from 4pm to 6pm on Friday 8 December 2017, at the Klemzig Instrumental Music Office, 28 Hay Street Klemzig.
Audition bookings are now available online.
