Qualifications to work in children's services

National Quality Framework

The Education and Care Services National Law (National Law) and Education and Care Services National Regulations (National Regulations) set out the qualification requirements for educators working in approved education and care.

The national regulations also contain qualification requirements for:

  • first aid, including CPR
  • emergency asthma management
  • anaphylaxis management.

Additionally, an employer may require educators to hold specific qualifications or certifications mandated by their organisation.

Approved qualifications

The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) is responsible for publishing and determining relevant qualifications including assessments of foreign qualification for equivalence to approved qualifications.

Visit the ACECQA  website to view the list of approved qualifications and find out more about the assessment of equivalence of qualifications.

Working in a SA government education and care service

Educators and volunteers must undertake Responding to Abuse And Neglect - education and care (RAN-EC) training and a relevant history screening.
